We arrived to Phillip Island on a Sunday afternoon. This island is connected to the mainland by a bridge and visitors come here to experience two main attractions: the penguin parade and the car racing circuit.
We are greeted by the lovely and cozy atmosphere of the Holmwood Guesthouse, an enchanting cottage located in a quiet street full of trees – this place is so beautiful that even koalas come here to find some rest. The Holmwood Guesthouse is owned by Serena and Eric, a couple who turned this place into a cozy guesthouse that immediately makes you feel at home.

This island attracts more than 500.000 visitors who come here each night at sunset in order to experience the magic of penguins returning ashore after a day’s fishing. Unfortunately it is forbidden to take pictures or making videos in order not to scare the penguins. The whole scene is extremely touching; as the sun fades in the sky, you can see hundreds of penguins waddling across the beach as they look for their little hungry penguins that are ready to be fed. The magic of nature is just incredible.

After witnessing this unforgettable natural phenomenon it is time to enjoy some dinner. We decide to go to the Rusty Water Brewery restaurant. Here attention to raw and fresh material is extremely important and the restaurant menu changes every season in order to offer new, seasonal, fresh, and healthy dishes. The wine list includes also a selection of ciders and local beers. I ordered a light and tasty fish&chips that was extremely yummy. Thumbs up for this place, its food and its relaxing and convivial atmosphere.

Stay tuned
